A revolutionary new treatment for spider veins called VeinGogh is being introduced to physicians and medical practices across the United States. “VeinGogh: The Art of Vein Treatment” is an exciting new technology designed for the improvement or
elimination of small veins. It is highly- effective and safe, and usually provides immediate results with very little or NO post- treatment downtime for the patient. The treatment is
performed using a stylus which holds a very fine needle that delivers a “microburst” of controlled energy just under the skin, but above the vessel. The energy pulse specifically targets the vessel wall, heats it instantly, causing the vessel wall to collapse.
This process is known as Thermo-Coagulation. Most patients are satisfied after just one treatment, but some may occasionally need a follow-up treatment.
The VeinGogh treatment works especially well on the face and can be performed in just minutes. This treatment can be done alone, or in conjunction with other laser or light-based
therapies and many skin care services. The typical patient experiences very little discomfort during treatment, and should be able to return to work following treatment as there are very minimal post-operative residual effects. Unlike laser or light-based therapies, the VeinGogh treatment requires little to no regimented post- operative care.
Most patients find that applying a cool Aloe Vera gel, or their favorite moisturizer, to provide comfort and eliminate any post treatment dryness that may occur. Patients may even
resume their exercise routines as well as outdoor activities following treatment. Another unique and desirable attribute of this technology compared to existing laser and light-based
therapies, is that the energy of VeinGogh is non-chromophore specific, and can therefore safely treat tan and darker skin types. VeinGogh is quickly becoming the gold standard for treating spider veins. Ask your physician if Vein Gogh is right for you.
Fortunately, Kevin performs facial vein treatments for patients in our region and can safely, easily and effectively treat these facial spider veins, also called telangiectasias.
What causes facial veins?
We do not know all of the causes, but they are often related to heredity, oral contraceptives, hormone therapy, sun exposure or the aging process. They may also be related to rosacea, another treatable skin condition.
How do the treatments work?
Today's new thermocoagulation technology delivers precise dosages of energy to each vein, with a minimal risk to the skin. During these treatments, energy is delivered through a special handpiece/small needle to the targeted vein. The energy is then absorbed by the blood vessels. The heat/energy absorption causes a thermocoagulation (clogging) of the blood vessel. The clogged vessel is then slowly absorbed by the body.
Will the treatments work on my face?
Prior to treatment we will review your medical history to determine how long you have had a problem with facial veins. We will need to evaluate your veins and if you have had any prior skin treatments on your face. We will also discuss your objectives and fully explain your treatment and projected outcome.
Do facial vein treatments hurt?
Most patients describe the sensation to be like the snap of a rubber band on the skin as the pulses of energy are delivered through the handpiece/needle. Some patients opt to have a topical anesthesia. After treatment, the pain is minimal to nonexistent.
How many treatments will I need?
Typically, multiple treatments are necessary to achieve optimal results. Tiny pink and red vessels usually require two to three treatments to achieve acceptable results. Veins that are darker or purplish are usually more difficult to remove, and require more treatments. Treatments are spaced at 4 - 6 week intervals.
How long do treatments take?
Depending on the number of vessels treated and their location, treatments usually take several minutes.
Will the veins return after treatment?
Optimal results can be maintained only if you apply sunscreen on the treated area and avoid sun exposure. Over time it is possible for new veins to grow in, but these too can be erased.
Are these treatments safe?
Yes. Thermocoagulation has been used safely for millions of treatments worldwide. These systems treat only the targeted vessels, leaving the surrounding tissue intact. However, some bruising or redness may occur. The risk of scarring is small.
What will my recovery be like?
After we perform your facial vein treatment, postoperative discomfort is minimal. Your postoperative appearance will vary depending on what type of treatment Kevin selects for your condition.
After treatment some swelling, redness and on rare occasions, some minor blistering may occur.
Following any treatment, your skin may feel tender for several days. You should follow your doctor's instructions, avoid any harsh skin cleansers and use sunscreen.
